The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

Romans 1:1-17, FBCG, September 1, 2024


Servant -болос (doulos). n. masc. servant, slave. Refers to someone who is the property of another. A servant (doulos) is someone who is a slave and obeys the commands of his or her master.

Galatians 1:10 (ESV)'°For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant (doulos) of Christ.


Apostle -ánotóoc (apostolos). n. masc. messenger, apostle. One sent out; in the nt, especially those sent out by Jesus to preach the gospel


Isaiah 9:6-7 (ESV) ®For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 'Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.


Zechariah 9:9 (ESV)*Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.


Jeremiah 32:40-41 (ESV)*| will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me. "I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul.


Luke 24:27 (ESV)" And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.


Holy - avioc (hagios). adj. holy, set apart, consecrated, dedicated, saints. Refers to the quality of God who is transcendently distinctive, unique, majestic, perfect, and pure.'


1 Corinthians 1:2 (ESV) To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours.


Gift - xápioua (charisma). n. neut. something graciously given; a gift. Something that is freely given on account of favor and kindness. This noun is related to xápic (charis, "grace, favor") and refers specifically to the result of gracious giving or action. In the nt, God is usually the one who gives such gifts, and his gifts include spiritual gifts for equipping the church (e.g., 1 Cor 12:4), a person's special calling (e.g., 2 Tim 1:6), and God's gift of salvation through Christ (e.g., Rom 5:15-16; 6:23; 11:29).2


карпс (karpos). n. masc. fruit, harvest, gain. This noun is often used as a figure of speech to describe the fruitfut outcome of righteous actions.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV)®Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 2ºfor you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Habakkuk 2:2-4 (ESV)*And the Lord answered me: "Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay. '"Behold, his sout is puffed up; it is not upright within him, but the righteous shall live by his faith.


Galatians 3:11-14 (ESV)" Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for "The righteous shall live by faith." ?But the law is not of faith, rather "The one who does them shall live by them." Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree" - 14so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.


Hebrews 10:34-39 (ESV)For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. "For, "Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; "but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him." 3°But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.
