THE PASTOR'S PEN
In last month’s newsletter, we shared a need and request from Pastor Beramon and the Nazarene church in Gros Mangles, Haiti. The request was to help the congregation raise funds. They needed $3,250 to complete the $5,250 total required to re-sheet their sanctuary roof with aluminum metal.
Thanks to Stan Gilmore’s creative design! Stan created a display of the sanctuary using blocks to represent each of the 93 metal sheets needed ($35 each), while our Mission Board hosted the sign-up table. In just one Sunday, your remarkable generosity not only met the goal but exceeded it, bringing in a total of $3,810!
Thank you for giving so generously to this project! Your continued faithfulness in giving to our General, Benevolence, and Mission Funds makes a huge difference—please keep in mind that our Mission Fund is currently behind target and appreciates any extra support.
Please continue to hold our Haitian brothers and sisters in your prayers as they move forward with their sanctuary repairs.
Starting October 4, the Elders are offering a 15-week discipleship class designed for adults of all ages who want to deepen their faith and walk with Jesus Christ. This second volume of teaching will explore foundational biblical principles and encourage practical spiritual disciplines to foster ongoing growth. Join us on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM in the Sonshine Classroom. Steve Bjorkman will serve as the primary teacher.
Pastor Sean and I will also be offering a new members class, October 18, 25, and November 1 which will meet on Sunday mornings at 9am in my study.
Join our Elders for a Downtown Gettysburg Prayer Walk on Thursday, October 15, at 6:30 PM. We will gather in pairs to walk through town, praying for our community and watching for opportunities to share the hope of Christ with those we meet.
We will kick off with a brief orientation and prayer before heading out.
When: Thursday, October 15 at 6:30 PM
Meeting Location: The parking lot next to Gettysburg Battlefield Tours (across the street from Rita’s Italian Ice)
On another topic, several years ago, the Elder Board had some growing concerns about our denominational affiliation, ABC/USA. Following a review, we identified some areas that brought great concern and decided to bring further review this past summer. What we have found out since our last review is that there seems to be an even greater lean in the direction that is outside the things that honor God.
Unfortunately, like many American denominations, ABC/USA has become trapped in progressive ideologies and unbiblical stances, forcing many conservative churches to find alliances and fellowships elsewhere. It has become clear to the elders that recent movements in ABC/USA leadership indicate a path that we are feeling we cannot follow.
While we continue to research, we are feeling the need to share with our church family some of our findings and what might be our unified response. We have scheduled two open meetings, presenting the same materials and concerns, December 6 and January 10 in the evenings. Further details will be forthcoming. Please keep this in your prayers and join us at one of these informational meetings.
